NCC - Know more about the Uniform

1) Why we wear hackle in Beret ?

Its not just NCC who wears the hackle but the armies of some Common wealth countries the hackle is worn by some infantry regiments, especially those designated as fusilier regiments and those with Scottish and Northern Irish origins. The colour of the hackle varies from regiment to regiment. In india other than NCC the following Regiments are entitled to wear :

Brigade of the Guards  : Red over yellow
The Grenadiers             : White
Kumaon Regiment        : Green
Mahar Regiment           : Dull cherry
Maratha Light Infantry : Red over green
Naga Regiment             : Orange
Rajput Regiment           : Maroon over red
National Cadet Corps   : Red

2) What is Aiguillette,

Although there are many stories from history about its origin but in today's world it is decorated to generals and staff officers who are on duty as RDC or delegated (RDC duty is the officer on duty with Governors and similar higher officials) Aiguillette is not a part of NCC uniform but only meant for officers

3) Why we wear dark Green Beret

The story takes us back to 1941 when there were many badges and different colours of headgears and no standardisation in uniform was crating too many problems in British Army. They decided to adopt an Irish Culture called Tam o' Shanter initially 3 colours were proposed red, yellow and green. Green was chosen as the most suitable. The proposal that the commandos should start wearing green beret as their official headdress was submitted to the Chief of Combined Operations and forwarded by Lord Mountbatten to the Under-Secretary of State for War. Approval was granted and in October 1942 the first green berets were issued to the Royal Marines. As we follow the british culture all the above mentioned regiments wear Green Beret including NCC as they are too part of Infantry.

4) Why the Fourragère is on left side,

For this too again there are many stories some of them are as follows
1) well the major reason for wearing the Fourragère on left side is to avoid inconvenience while working such as supporting the butt of rifle and while doing drill etc.
2) All those corps and regiments which comes direct in action(Fighting corp) with enemy such as infantry wears it on left and not fighting force such as Artillery etc wears it on Right

Lanyards is used to secure the sword, Pistol ets and Fourragère are the decoratives of unit or regiment Like NCC Fourragère made of three colour each for tri service....don't confuse between the below three....
